The 37th Annual Frank Brown Songwriters Festival takes place November 4th - 14th at the Flora-Bama Lounge, located in Perdido Beach, FL/Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Flora-Bama lounge

One of our favorite locations for building new homes is in Northwest Florida in the Greater Pensacola region. Florida's "Panhandle" and Coastal Alabama are known for world-class beaches bright with sugar-white sand and emerald waters. Along with Gulf waters comes an abundance of wildlife and a lifestyle ripe with recreational pursuits like boating and fishing. There is a strong military presence here thanks to a rich military history and several large bases. This is also home to a unique establishment called the Flora-Bama Lounge, a structure that rests right on the Florida/Alabama line. The Flora-Bama opened in 1964 as a small bar and package store. Today the lounge features live music daily from local artists to platinum recording artists. On Sundays, you can attend church at the Flora-Bama. The lounge is also known for several annual events including the Interstate Mullet Toss and Beach Party held each April, and the Frank Brown International Songwriting Festival held in November. In fact, Thrillist named it to Florida's Best Bar list, again. The owners have said that they see a bar as more of a community hub, than a bar. To that end, they've always used it as a place to support the community and make money for those in need. To learn more about the Flora-Bama Lounge, visit their website.

Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival

The 37th Annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival will feature 200 nationally recognized songwriters. The event was created by one of the Flora-Bama owners, Joe Gilchrist to honor songwriters. He felt songwriters get enough credit for the joy they bring. He named the festival in honor of Frank Brown, a night watchman who worked at the Flora-Bama. Mr. Brown, known for his moral integrity, was 91 years old when he retired and was featured on Paul Harvey's syndicated radio show, "The Rest of the Story".

The Southeast Tourism Society has named the festival one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast annually since 2011. Songwriter performances take place at multiple venues. Writers perform in Nashville-style writers' rounds. These intimate, listening room performances allow audiences to hear the stories behind Grammy-winning songs.

The festival also includes educational opportunities for songwriters from workshops on recording, marketing, and the craft of songwriting.

Featured Artist Dean Dillon

This year's featured artist is Dean Dillon, the songwriter behind multiple George Strait hits including The Chair, Nobody In His Right Mind Would Have Left Her, and Ocean Front Property. In fact, George Strait recorded and released 68 Dean Dillon songs. Dean Dillon performs on Sunday, November 7th. Tickets are $15.
